I Believe in America

Years ago when Maria and I were young, married and broke, we invested in a mutual fund. We didn’t invest much, you know, ‘cause we were young, married and broke. Raising two young children will do that to you. Still, we invested what we could.

We didn’t know anything about investing and we certainly didn’t know what a mutual fund was, but the guy who was selling the fund to us was a friend, so we trusted him. But still, we wanted to know as much about it as we could. So I asked him to explain it to us. He told us how these types of funds work and how they can fluctuate over time depending on the economic outlook, and so we had to patient. He also told us that this particular mutual fund invested only in American companies, so in essence, we were betting on America. It would take the entire economy of America to collapse for this particular fund to lose money over the long haul. I was a patriotic guy then as I am now and really liked the idea of betting on America. I believed in America then and still do today. So we invested in it.  I’m glad we did.

To continue to question the outcome of this 2020 election is to in essence say, “I don’t believe in America. I don’t believe in her electoral process. I don’t believe in her judicial system. I don’t believe in her duly elected local, state or national officials. I don’t believe in her news institutions. And I don’t believe in the will of the people.”

I’m not prepared to do that. I love my country to much.

I believe in America. You should too.
